India: FCO travel advice updated

Heavy monsoon rains continue to affect large parts of India, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office warns.

Affected states include Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and the Indo-Gangetic plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh.

Road and rail links have been severely affected. Travellers should allow plenty of time to travel by road to their destination, particularly to the airport. Those in any of the affected areas are advised to monitor local media for updates.

Meanwhile, security has been increased in all cities and at airports since India’s Independence Day on August 15. Some roads may be closed at short notice and there may also be increased security checks at Metro stations. Travellers should allow more time than usual for travel and when checking-in at airports.
