Spain: Airport workers vote for mass strike action

Airport workers have voted for a general strike at 25 airports across Spain in a mass protest against working conditions and low pay, according to The Local.

Car park staff, luggage belt operators, security, IT and retail and catering staff will all down tools on 25 soecified days from September 15 until the end of the year.

The 24-hour strikes will cause maximum disruption to Christmas and New Year travellers.

The dates are: September 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29; October 1, 6, 11, 15, 27, 30 and 31; November 3 and 5; and December 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and between 26 and 30 inclusive.

Three main unions – USO, CCOO and UGT – are behind the action to be carried out against airport operator, AENA, but are hopeful that, with negotiation, a deal may be struck to avoid strike action.
