Mauritius and Reunion: Tropical Storm warning

16 January 2018

Severe Tropical Storm Berguitta will pass dangerously close to Mauritius and Réunion Island from Wednesday (January 17) into Thursday (January 18), according to AccuWeather. The storm is expected to bring damaging winds and flooding rains that will lead to flight delays and cancellations.
Rainfall could reach 200-300mm across the islands, which could lead to flash flooding. Across the mountainous terrain on Réunion, mudslides are also possible. Damaging wind gusts of 130-169 km/h may hit the islands should the centre of Berguitta pass nearby.Late-week impacts are also possible in Madagascar, where recovery efforts continue from damage brought by Tropical Storm Ava last week.
