Italy: Dangerous heatwave warning

Rome is on red alert for a life-threatening heatwave, Wanted in Rome says.

The Italian health ministry has placed the city at the highest heat-risk level.

The red alert is in effect for August 2.

Rome has been classified as "Level 3-Red", the health ministry's highest heat risk level, along with Frosinone, Pescara and Campobasso.

From August 2, the warning will be applied to a further 12 Italian cities: Bari, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Cagliari, Florence, Latina, Milan, Naples, Perugia, Rieti and Viterbo.

Temperatures of around 40C are forecast for the end of the week.

Travellers should stay well hydrated and limit outdoor activities.
