Authorities reported that a blizzard has ripped through the central region of Sweden, grounding flights from the main airport in Stockholm. According to Klas Nilsson, a spokesman for Operator Swedavia, a runway was kept open for arriving flights, although delays are likely to occur. Stockholm saw eight inches of snow fell on Wednesday night. Nilsson said they expected the extreme weather to continue for a number of hours. Unfortunately, he had no figures as to the number of affected passengers, although he mentioned that about 50,000 passengers travel daily through Arlanda. Meanwhile, the TT news agency reported that Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Education Minister Jan Bjorklunds cancelled trips to different parts of the Scandinavian nation because of the bad weather.
